What are lung diseases?

Lung diseases mainly impact the respiratory pathways, including lungs, airway tracks, tissues and vessels. Lung diseases are mainly of three types
a) Airway diseases: Affects the tubes and lungs, eg. asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiolitis, and bronchiectasis
b) Lung tissue diseases: scarring or inflammation of the tissue, which makes lung inflammability restricted. eg. Pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis
c) Lung circulation diseases: affects the blood vessels.  People with these conditions often feel shortness of breath during physical activity. eg. pulmonary hypertension.

Most common lung diseases

  1. Asthma: a chronic inflammatory condition that causes narrowing and swelling of the airways, making it difficult to breathe.
  2. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): a group of progressive lung diseases, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis, that make it difficult to breathe due to damage to the lungs and airways.
  3. Pulmonary fibrosis: a condition in which the lung tissue becomes scarred and thickened, making it difficult for oxygen to pass from the lungs into the bloodstream.
  4. Lung cancer: a type of cancer that starts in the lungs and can spread to other parts of the body.
  5. Pneumonia: an infection of the lungs that can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi.
  6. Tuberculosis: an infectious disease caused by a bacterium that can affect the lungs and other parts of the body.
  7. Pulmonary hypertension: a type of high blood pressure that affects the arteries in the lungs and can lead to heart failure.

These and other lung diseases can cause a range of symptoms, including
  • coughing
  • wheezing
  • shortness of breath
  • chest pain
  • fatigue

How can medical cannabis help with lung diseases
