USDA Extends Hemp Testing Deadline to December 31, 2025
Farmers gain temporary relief from mandatory DEA-registered lab requirements.
The USDA hemp testing deadline has been extended until December 31, 2025, delaying the requirement that all hemp samples be tested by DEA-registered laboratories.
Washington, D.C., January 2025 — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that hemp farmers will not be required to use DEA-registered laboratories for compliance testing until December 31, 2025, extending enforcement by an additional year.
The rule was originally set to take effect earlier but faced resistance due to a lack of DEA-certified labs across the country. Farmers and advocacy groups warned that enforcing the rule in 2024 would have created costly bottlenecks and risked non-compliance.
Industry leaders welcomed the USDA hemp testing deadline 2025 extension, calling it “a necessary step” while federal agencies work to expand testing infrastructure.
